Manners for Mutts was started in 2004 by Staci Lemke. Her love for animals developed similar to that of many animal professionals, as a young child, with family pets. In high school, she raised project animals such as sheep, cows, and horses through the Future Farmers of America (FFA). She has worked with trainers of both cutting horses and thoroughbred racehorses.

Staci has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Cal State Fullerton, where she also studied animal behavior. In addition, she has done volunteer work for the Irvine Animal Shelter. Staci is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and has worked in the veterinary industry since 1995. In 2001, she began teaching puppy classes at the veterinary clinic. The classes became so popular, that many times there was a waiting list to get in. Wanting to help dog owners who could not attend her classes, Staci began conducting private, in-home training. Manners for Mutts was born one year later.

Staci is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), The Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (SVBT), The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), and is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer - knowledge accessed (CPDT - KA). Staci regularly attends conferences, workshops, and seminars in an effort to increase her knowledge of canine behavior and training techniques.
